Faces and Faces
By Daniel Montgomery
Faces and faces
different, yet the same.
Mirrors of one another
going by a different name.
Faces and faces
Who will you reflect?
Who will you be
when death comes to collect?
Faces and faces
Looking at you and at me.
Why are you pretending
to be what they want to see?
Faces and faces
They watch and they wait
Some day you'll slip up.
You can try to hide your mistake
but it'll be too late.
Faces and faces
Why do they care?
No one else does.
How is this fair?
Faces and faces
"Just be yourself," they say,
But merely toeing the line
Has its own price to pay.
Faces and faces
Spreading rumors and deceit
All the while, acting innocent
As pure as a white sheet.
Faces and faces
If you don't find the ones who lie
And separate the wheat from the chaff,
On the day that you die
THEY
WILL
LAUGH.
