This summer I watched as a teenage girl left for work almost every day. I watched her return in the evening to spend time with her siblings, to rejoice, to relax. How did I see her? I am the quilt that adorns her bed. I am the quilt that caught the tears, which streamed down her grief stricken face as her heart left her. Megan Koch
She took me off, and I watched her play in the water with her younger sister. I’ve felt her hand a lot, when the two walk hand in hand. After hours of splashing around, she came back and put me on the same finger she always does, her right ring finger. She walked through the hotel and took me off her finger again so she could take a shower. I waited for the water to stop, and when it did, I waited for her to put me on like she normally does … but she never did. Caitlin O'Toole
