Whispered Promises by Megan Koch
“How fortunate,” she thought as she slid through the open window and entered the home. Elizabeth’s feet landed softly upon the crusty, grey carpet with a quiet crunch. She shot across the room as if a brisk wind was at her back. That party was exhilarating. Her joy did not last long. Footsteps thudded on the level above her. I can’t get caught! Elizabeth thought, I’m already grounded. The dark stairs came into view as she rounded the corner into the hallway. Her feet grounded to a stop; standing midway up the stairs was her sister, Lynn. She just shook her head and receded into the shadows. Darting up the stairs and into the shared bedroom, Elizabeth inhaled before facing her sister. “I’m sorry, just don’t tell Mom.” “I would never,” Lynn whispered, “I love you, monster.”

“How fortunate,” he thought as he slid through the open window and entered the home. He knew that breaking into people’s houses was wrong but he didn’t care. As he entered the house, his eyes lit up. Standing in the middle of the room was a large couch full of pillows of all different sizes. He quickly scurried over to the couch and hopped on top of it. For a minute, he just laid on the couch, completely relaxed. After he had finished relaxing, he went crazy. Pillows were being thrown around, ripped open, and tossed through the air. He heard footsteps coming down the stairs and stopped only for a second before he decided that it was no use; he was going to get in trouble anyway. He continued destroying the pillows and the furniture in the living room until he felt a tug on his neck. “Spot! What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be sleeping in the garage! You know you’re not allowed on the couch!”
